In collaboration with Tokopedia, UNAIR Incubator fosters students’ entrepreneurial skill

UNAIR NEWS – Nowadays, e-commerce sites are strategic platforms for entrepreneurship and a marketplace funnel for the younger generation who want to start a business. Seeing this opportunity, the Start-up and Incubation Business Development Board (BPBRIN) through Universitas Airlangga Incubator (UNAIR) collaborated with Tokopedia to provide training for UNAIR students who want to start or already have a business on an e-commerce site.

Held online on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, the event entitled “Start Your Business with Tokopedia” brought in entrepreneurs and a reliable team from Tokopedia to provide knowledge and guidance. Muhammad from Tokopedia gave an initial introduction about the ins and outs of doing business at Tokopedia.

Muhammad revealed that Tokopedia already has 100 million users throughout Indonesia and spreads over 98 percent of Indonesia’s territory. The number of products reaches 350 million types with 10 million merchants.

With this huge market and opportunity, Muhammad appealed to the younger generation not to hesitate to start their business at Tokopedia.

“86.5% of sellers at Tokopedia are new entrepreneurs. Don’t worry about competition because we are here trying to develop a platform that can reach many merchants and users to build a wider market ecosystem,” he explained.

“Indonesia is ranked first in the world’s online buying and selling transactions. The percentage is 82 percent, above China, England, Germany, and Thailand,” he explained.

In addition to explaining the business opportunity, Muhammad also shared some simple strategies in starting a business at Tokopedia. There were explanations on digital products that support business activities, logistics partners, transaction flows, and strategies to maximize marketing steps from online stores.

Muhammad explained that if participants want a successful online store, they must pay attention to four things, product descriptions and effective naming, competitive prices, attractive product photos, and marketing products through Tokopedia features on various social media.

After the presentation, the Tokopedia team also provided further in-depth training for participants through break-out roomsIn that session, participants will consult with a team from Tokopedia and get technical explanations for doing business successfully on one of the largest e-commerce sites in Indonesia.

The sharing session and short training are expected to increase the entrepreneurial and business skills of UNAIR students. Moreover, e-commerce sites are currently a market with such a wide range of consumers. (*)
