UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga’s (UNAIR) Postgraduate School initiated the Airlangga Forum program, which is an interactive podcast program inviting speakers with national and international reputations. Broadcast live from the Surabaya City Hall, this time Airlangga Forum presented the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, ST, MT, as the main speaker on “Smart City, from Surabaya for the World” on Friday, April 9, 2021.

As an effort to realize Surabaya as a SMART City, the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) launched the WargaKu application. Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi initiated the application so Surabaya’s residents can be more prosperous and well served.

“I want the citizens of Surabaya not to feel bothered with the long bureaucracy, only with one application, all the bureaucracy can be shortened,” he said.

With WargaKu application, he continued, all Surabaya’s residents can be connected as one. If they have complaints, they can use the application to submit their complaints and will be followed up immediately within a 24 hour time limit.

“In the future, I really hope for the synergy between the Surabaya city government and universities to build Surabaya together,” he added.

Furthermore, Director of UNAIR Postgraduate School Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco SE., MBA., Ph.D. said that Indonesia, in order to get out of the middle-class income trap, must carry out an economic transformation. This is in line with Surabaya’s vision, towards a better Surabaya as a city of services and trade that is smart, humane, dignified and environmentally friendly.

According to him, the current Surabaya’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) is at 554.51 trillion rupiah. The contribution of health services to Surabaya’s GDP is 4.88 trillion rupiah. If the GDP in Surabaya is assumed to grow 5 percent per year, then the potential total GRDP in 2026 is 780.25 trillion rupiah.

“At the moment, the health service sector contributes sufficiently to the economic sector so it has the potential to become a driving force for the economy. If Surabaya’s economic transformation makes the health sector grow to 5 percent, it is worth 39 trillion rupiah,” he explained.

One of the efforts to encourage the economy in the health sector is to build smart health. It can be done by building a health startup that can work with health workers, pharmacies and universities to support economic transformation.

The Mayor of Surabaya has an extraordinary vision. Pak Eri Cahyadi was able to translate the vision into an extraordinary action plan, “he concluded. (*)
