Inaugurating new dentists, Dean of FKG: Dentist is a profession, not merely a job

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) inaugurated another batch of dentists and dental specialists on Saturday, March 13, 2021. This time, there were 20 new dentists and 6 dental specialists taking their oath to serve.

In the blended oath-taking ceremony, Dean of Faculty of Dental Medicine UNAIR Dr. Agung Sosiawan, drg., M.Kes delivered a remarks and he reminded the graduates that  they have a great moral and professional responsibility in accordance with UNAIR’s tagline, Excellence with Morality.

In his remarks he continued that dentist is noble profession, like any other profession. “This is what I think I need to emphasize because, in principle, dentist is a profession, not a job, “he said.

For this reason, Dr. Agung hoped that graduates can make a positive contribution to the nation and state, and always uphold the good name of the alma mater.

Representing the graduates, Erlisa Saraswati., drg., Sp.BM., M.Ked.Klin expressed her utmost love for all parties who provided support, prayers, and enthusiasm during their studies.

According to her, the inauguration is the evidence of responsibility from their studies which full of struggles. She emphasized that there is no achievement without struggle, and there is no result without process. What is obtained is a reflection of the struggles they have put up so far.

“Today is not the end, but the beginning of our struggle to dedicate our knowledge to the country and the nation. We are very grateful and proud because God allowed us to go through the process and gain education in this beloved campus, ” she said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, drh., DEA as Vice Rector for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs said that graduates should be proud and confident. Because, in June 2020, the QS World University Ranking put UNAIR in the 521-530 position in the world. It also makes UNAIR the 4th best campus in Indonesia out of 4,700 universities.

He revealed that the inauguration added the long list of dentists from UNAIR. Until now, there have been a total of 5,816 dentists since January 15, 1948, and 1,152 dental specialists since the first batch in 1990.

“It means that UNAIR has made a big contribution to the nation and society with the addition of 20 dentists and 6 dental specialist who are sworn in today,” he said on behalf of UNAIR Rector. (*)
