The relation between working positions, body mass index, age at home industry batik Madura workers

Workers in various industrial sectors can experience musculoskeletal disorders. It can cause workers to experience a decrease in work productivity. Musculoskeletal disorders experienced by workers are caused by multiple factors, such as individual characteristic factors (gender, smoking habits, exercise habits, body mass index, age, and years of service) and biomechanical factors such as work position. This study analyzes the relationship between body mass index, age, and years of service with Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in the worker’s home industry Madurese batik.

This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional study design. The number of samples used is determined using the total population. Data collection in this study was obtained from interviews and observations. The data analysis used wastest Fisher’s Exact and correlation Spearman with α = 0.05. The results showed a fragile relationship between gender (C = 0.046), smoking habits (r = 0.049), age (r = 0.014), and years of service (r = 0.003) with complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders. There was a weak relationship between exercise habits (C = 0.140) and Musculoskeletal Disorders, a moderate relationship between work position (r = 0.477) and complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders, and a strong relationship between body mass index (r = 0.558) and complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders.

This study concludes that the factors that significantly affect Musculoskeletal Disorders are body mass index and a significant factor affecting Musculoskeletal Disorders is work position. Workers are advised to do sports and relaxation or stretching activities. Local health offices are advised to provide counseling regarding ergonomic work positions.
