UNAIR NEWS – Taiwan Education Center (TECSID) Surabaya greeted Indonesian students again through a live session of the International Hub Virtual Airlangga Education Expo (AEE)  2021. Being held through Zoom Meeting on Sunday, February 14, 2021, the event presented various detailed information related to scholarships and opportunities to study in Taiwan.

Attending the occasion, TECSID Manager Primasari Cahya Wardhani shared the important role of TECSID in providing information and opportunities to study in Taiwan.

“Since its establishment in 2017, we (TECSID) have held annual expos, study consultations, Mandarin language training, and even scholarships for those who are interested in studying in Taiwan. And all of our services are provided free of charge,” she explained.

According to Prima, the trend of Indonesian students studying in Taiwan is increasing from year to year. It was triggered by a supportive academic environment and many scholarships offered to study in Taiwan.

One example of Indonesian students’ success stories pursuing education in Taiwan comes from Zakiyah Dania Billah. The alumna of English Literature, UNAIR Faculty of Humanities, is currently pursuing a Master’s program at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature at Asia University Taiwan.

Zakiyah shared that he had received a lot of input, information, and motivation from TECSID to continue her studies in Taiwan. Not only did she succeed in achieving her dream, Zakiyah successfully got the Taiwan Education Experience Program (TEEP) scholarship.

“There is a great opportunity to study in Taiwan. Apart from the many scholarships offered, the requirements that must be prepared are not too complicated,” she said.

Furthermore, Zakiyah also said that an excellent social and academic environment was also her main consideration in choosing Taiwan. First, Zakiyah assesses that Taiwan’s living necessities are not too different from those in Indonesia in terms of the cost of living. It also offers a supportive social environment.

Meanwhile, for academic matters, Zakiyah was impressed by the lecturers’ quality and the amount of tolerance they have towards students with different backgrounds. “If there are Muslim students, lecturers will not hesitate to put off classes if the schedule collides with worship hours,” she added.

Through this experience, both Prima and Zakiyah encourage students not to hesitate to start their dream of studying abroad. Apart from the webinar facilitated by Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), information can also be obtained by visiting TECSID office on the 1st Floor of UNAIR Management Office Building, Campus C.
