UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Thursday, January 7, 2021, held its 165th Inauguration and Oath-Taking of Veterinarians. The inauguration of the new vets felt very different compared to previous years. It is held amid a pandemic that hit the world for about a year, it is the second time Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) UNAIR held an online inauguration.

As one of the most historic and long-awaited moments, the veterinarian oath-taking procession is the culmination of veterinarian professional education program (PPDH). In this sacred activity, Risma Diana was named the best graduate.

Interviewed by UNAIR NEWS team , Risma Diana said that she is very grateful for being named best graduate in this batch. Her struggles during her undergraduate and PPDH studies were not easy, as a state-funded Bidikmisi student, Risma Diana had to be good at managing finances.

“During the PPDH study which began in September 2019, I had to do fieldwork in several areas, which was a fun and challenging experience. In March 2020, all co-assistant activities were terminated and continued with the online method, changing the learning method was quite difficult and stressful, especially because the main veterinary co-assistance activity should be practical activities, while online practice is very minimal, “said the woman born in Blitar 24 years ago.

While studying at FKH UNAIR, Risma Diana continued, she was active in organizational activities and extracurricular activities to support soft skills.

“I have been a staff at community service division of Blitar Student Forum in Surabaya and I was active participating student organization activities until 4th semester. In 2018-2019, I became an assistant lecturer in veterinary pathology. I also do internships during semester breaks, including internships in poultry farms, laboratories and animal clinics to add my skills and practice my knowledge, ” she said.

The woman who is also the best graduate in June 2019 graduation for undergraduate program revealed that her success cannot be separated from the role of parents.

“The role of parents and family in my education is very big, family has always been my encouragement, a place for me to return to and who always believe in me no matter what. Mother, with her good prayers for me and father as a place for me to lean on, ” she said.

In the future, after studying and obtaining a veterinarian degree, Risma Diana wants to work immediately and if there is an opportunity she wants to pursue further education.

For her colleagues who are currently studying at undergraduate level or who are currently pursuing co-assistant, Risma Diana advised them to stay enthusiastic even though this pandemic made all learning online and limited.

“Always optimize the media used, if lectures are not enough, add knowledge and update knowledge with webinars which are currently held free of charge. Always strengthen your determination to study, finish your education immediately and do your best, ” she concluded. (*)
