UNAIR NEWS – Three students of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have made another national achievement. This time, Trias Politica debate team consisting of Lalu Ary Kurniawan Hardi, Charisma Omega Nafu and Antonio Fernando won 1st place in National Social Science Week Debate Competition (PISN). Furthermore, Lalu Ary Kurniawan Hardi has also succeeded in becoming 1st Best Speaker in the debate competition organized by Jakarta State University.
Interviewed by UNAIR News, Lalu Ary Kurniawan Hardi revealed that the topics discussed in PISN debate competition were issues of educational revolution and digitalization of education. The three students of Political Science class of 2017, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR won the debate competition and defeated 23 other teams from 17 universities in Indonesia.
The student known well as Ary said that during the PISN competition, the three of them experienced a culture shock as there are several things that were modified in the debate competition system.
“So we had a ‘culture shock’ and it was quite draining. But we are still grateful because in the end we can be champions, “he continued.
According to him, the biggest motivation to develop their debating skills. Before the three of them became UNAIR students, they had experiences participating in debate competitions in their respective high schools.
In addition to develop themselves, he continued, the three of them also wanted to make a good reputation for
UNAIR especially in Indonesian language debate. Then their personal reason is that they do not want to spend their college period only in class.
“We do not want this college period only spent in class, but we also want to have extra activities with positive values not only for us but also for our beloved university,” he concluded. (*)
