First ever, UNAIR inaugurates new students online

UNAIR NEWS – The inauguration ceremony for Universitas Airlangga students this year is carried out differently. Due to the pandemic, for the first time ever, inauguration of 6,875 new students was carried out online.

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Rector Prof. Moh Nasih inaugurated the new undergraduate and diploma program students on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. They are freshmen for the 2020/2021 academic year.

There were 6,875 new students inaugurated as Batch 1 from various regions in Indonesia. The furthest are from Banda Aceh, Tarakan, Ternate, Jayapura, Sitaro Islands, and Belu.

UNAIR Rector said, UNAIR new student admission capacity for 2020 is 7,225. It will be complete with students from Batch 2.

“There are 1,126 students who are holders of the College Smart Indonesia Card (KIP-K),” said the Rector.

In 2020, KIP-K UNAIR quota reaches 1,400 students. The largest KIP-K admission this year comes from the Independent admission pathway which reached more than 500 students.

Among the inaugurated students, Gusti Bazilia Callysta Dzakwan was the youngest student at the age of 15. The girl born on January 5, 2005 was admitted into English Literature program, Faculty of Humanities (FIB).

For the three year Nursing programs in Gresik and Lamongan, 99 percent are KIP-K holders. Rector said that it was an effort to give the best students opportunity to study at UNAIR.

Meanwhile, for prospective students who have not completed registration due to financial reasons, UNAIR gives more time to re-register.

“We hope parents and students with any difficulties could communicate the problem. We will assist them later, “said the Rector.

At the new student inauguration, the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto was attending online to give a speech. Airlangga Hartarto encouraged the new students to start living independently.

On that occasion Airlagga Hartarto also advise them to take part in student club activities because these activities would hone their soft skills.

“For the feshmen, the early days of college are a transitional period. The lectures will be much different from those in high school. So you must be independent, “he said.

Airlangga Hartarto also gave encouragement as the current struggle is tougher because we are in the middle of a pandemic. The coronavirus has forced us to carry out college activities online. (*)
