UNAIR NEWS – Covid-19 Pandemic has a massive effect on many things, including in education sector. Since the issuance of circular No. 36962 / MPK.A / HK / 2020 regarding online learning by the Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as the extension of Covid-19’s emergency response period by BNPB, literacy education services in Surabaya City have experienced a significant decline

In response, UNAIR the Faculty of Humanities through Department of English Language and Literature (Sasing) collaborated with the Surabaya City Library and Archives Service (Dispusip), held a training on designing online learning content for creative writing as one part of literacy education service activities for residents, which was attended by attendants of community reading corner (TBM).

The coordination activity themed MOODLE E-LEARNING TBM was held on Monday, June 22, 2020 through Zoom Meeting . There were Ir. Musdiq Ali Suhudi, MT as Head of Library and Archive Service Surabaya, Dra. Nur Wulan, Ph.D, Dr. Layli Hamida, and Kukuh Yudha Karnanta, SS, MA

Kukuh Yudha Karnanta, as the coordinator of English Literature Department stated that the application of online service methods must be carried out. This is to maintain productivity, even in the midst of a pandemic.

“We (FIB TEAM, ed) collaborates with PIPS UNAIR to provide online classes at MOOC (Massive Open Online Course),” explained Kukuh.

According to survey of the community service team on 481 TBM Surabaya staff, there was a significant decrease in productivity reaching 80 percent. Therefore, the steps to use information technology for learning media for creative writing are needed.

“Batch I training will be held rom June 22 to July 7, 2020 with a total of five meetings. Later, there will be fiction and non-fiction writing learning, “he explained.

“All this time, creative writing has been done face-to-face, but this pandemic condition has forced activities to be postponed. The productivity was decreasing, so online learning must be done to maintain a creative writing climate, “he added.

With an online system, hopefully literacy education activities can be more flexible, directed, and well-documented. Moreover, information technology enables the enrichment of learning content so it looks even more interesting and up to date.

The training was carried out online by FIB Team coordinated by Kukuh Yudha Karnanta. The training was planned to be in sessions, each session accommodates 50 participants. “We hope that all TBM officers will follow it, and later practice it during the service of literacy education in Surabaya,” he concluded.
