UNAIR holds international competition to fight Covid-19

UNAIR NEWS – As a support to prevent transmission of Covid-19 in the world, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an international competition called Airlangga Flatten the Curve Competition (AFCC) 2020. There were various types of competition such as essay composition, poster design, and video competition. The work submission deadline was June 5, 2020.

In AFCC 2020, the participants may choose three sub-themes of work: Covid-19 prevention campaign, building optimism amid pandemic, and productive activities during social distancing. The participants were expected to promote healthy life campaign and various positive activities done during amid pandemic as creative as possible.

In total, there were 72 participants from 25 countries participating AFCC 2020. After a selection process from June 5 to June 14, 2020 to 82 submitted works, UNAIR finally announced the winners on Monday, June 15, 2020. The judges of AFCC 2020 were Head of Center for Information and Public Relations, Suko Widodo; Head of Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), Dian Ekowati; and Coordinator of Postgraduate and Media Studies lecturer of Curtin University, Thon Kerr.

“AFCC is one of the efforts made by Universitas Airlangga to support #stayathome program and make students productive at home. Hopefully, UNAIR can help suppressing the Covid-19 transmission by holding a creative campaign in social media by international students around the world,” explained Dian Ekowati as the judge of essay competition in AFCC 2020.

She also said that AFCC is UNAIR’s commitment to internationalization of higher education institution amid pandemic Covid-19. AGE UNAIR, on this occasion also encourage people to avoid crowds, apply healthy and hygiene habit and obey the health protocols to stop the transmission chain of Covid-19.

The winners of AFCC 2020 are international students undergoing bachelor’s and master’s degree programs including in Indonesia. Here are the first winners of AFCC 2020: first place for Short Video category is Faith Fore, UNAIR student from Zimbabwe, Ang Genevieve from Singapore University of Social Science won first place of essay competition, and the first place of poster competition is a student from Singapore University of Social Science, Bernice Teo.
