UNAIR NEWS – The first day after being inaugurated for the second period, UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih with some experts shared insights in Open Talk Airlangga as SMART University 2020-2025 webinar. Conducted using zoom and youtube application, there were three speakers in the webinar, UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih, Vice Chief Editor of Kompas Mohammad Bakir, and Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business UI Prof. Rhenald Kasali, Ph.D., and it lasted for approximately two hours on Tuesday, June 17, 2020.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Nasih said that the five-year journey has given valuable lessons. The first lesson he learned was that UNAIR’s potential is extraordinary. According to him, UNAIR students are exceptional students who are selected from tens of thousands of prospective applicants every year.
“It means that students who can study at UNAIR are chosen students and have tremendous potential,” he said.
Furthermore, continued Prof. Nasih, lecturers are also chosen people who have very good potential. In fact, UNAIR lecturers are able to compete with other lecturers from various regions in the world.
“Administrative staff and alumni, too. This is the first thing I could identified in the past five years. Based on this study, the potential of UNAIR human resources is extraordinary, “explained Prof. Nasih.
That quality human resources, he continued, become the main capital to organize institutions to be smart university. In implementing the mission to a smart campus, Prof. Nasih explained that several concepts such as Smart Education for Millennial People is needed by using the technology together. Furthermore, Meaningful Research and Community Services by encouraging research and community service that is focused on providing maximum benefits.
The next concept, Accelerating Innovation and Enterprising by accelerating innovations that are not only physical but also social innovations, followed by the concept of Responsive and Lean Management require all members of academic community to be responsive to any conditions.
“The last thing is Top Up Tangible and Intangible Resource Utilization, through utilization of resources and physical assets for business,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Bakir on the occasion reviewed the role of the campus in supporting the world of media. Bakir admitted that UNAIR has a lot of potential that could be well communicated to the media.
“Not only that, in the challenges of the media world full with hoaxes, the campus also has a role to play in fighting the issue,” Bakir stated.
As the closing speaker, Prof. Rhenald Kasali explained about the Future of University. According to him, in the future the university will have a drastic change. The change, he continued, is not independent but interrelated.
“Many sectors continue to be linked to change. Of course it must be anticipated by the campus. Not to mention that the change is influenced by the role of the media, which is now also being tested by hoaxes in all fields, “he explained.
Moreover, continued Prof. Rhenald, in an era of disruption like now, a disease that is only local in nature can quickly become a globalized pandemic. Of course it is very closely related to the convenience that gives space for humans to move freely and quickly. In the end, Prof. Rhenald also mentioned Bloom’s Taxonomy. According to him, academics must master the phases, from remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating.
