UNAIR NEWS – Various sectors in Indonesia are making preparation to welcome the new normal era. Faculty of Dental Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, held a discussion forum with student representatives from each class and student guardians. The implementation of New Normal era will certainly require a series of changes, both in the implementation of classical teaching and practicum.

At the hearing with 235 student guardians on June 7, 2020, Vice Dean I Prof. Dr. Anita Yuliati, drg., M. Kes conveyed the results in the online forum. It was stated that 82% of students’ parents thought it was still not possible to learn during a pandemic like now.

Students’ parents gave recommendations to conduct online lectures, exchange practicum schedules with subsequent semesters, and reduce class capacity. So it can be concluded that the majority of student guardians or parents objected to the implementation of classical education in the midst of this pandemic, given the status of Surabaya as the black zone.

Then, Dr. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M. Kes, Dean of FKG UNAIR, gave a brief explanation.

“Parents of students and students must work together with faculties, universities, dental and oral hospital, and external stake holders to reduce the spread of Covid-19 while we do the teaching and learning process by implementing SEE Education, which is safe, effective, and efficient education,” explained Darmawan.

In the blueprint of Faculty of Dental Medicine UNAIR in the era of New Normal, he explained that the medical faculty, staff, operators, instructor clinics, and patients become the priority. Various strategies such as reducing face-to-face department-based lectures and increasing online integrated blended learning are done. There will be reduction of learning activities with patients and improvement of learning teaching aids and online blended learning, case-based learning.

Some preparations for FKG students’ practical work protocols at RSGM UNAIR were also prepared by the faculty and RSGM so the subsequent implementation of New Normal transition can run well and smoothly.
