UNAIR NEWS – Covid-19 Volunteer of BEM UNAIR established Dapur Mandiri in East Surabaya area as the effort of devotion from Kstaria Airlangga. Although the city of Surabaya has officially ended PSBB (large scale social restriction) on June 9, there are still a lot of people who need the help during this pandemic, especially in terms of economics.

Volunteer Coordinator of Covid-19 BEM UNAIR Muhammad Fakhrul Ardiansyah or familiarly called Ardi explained that during the new normal transition phase, the team said that some people are working in the informal sector on daily.

Looking at it, the team initiated the establishment of Dapur Mandiri as a form of the devotion of Ksatria Airlangga for the local community, especially in the city of Surabaya. Previously, the team cooperated with several institutions, both internal and external.

The kitchen made free meals and then distributed to the community in several areas. On the first day, the team distributed dozens of rice boxes in Tambaksari, Surabaya.

“We will serve more rice boxes and distributed to the local community at various points in Surabaya,” said Ardi, who also served as Minister of Community service BEM UNAIR 2019.

Ardi thanked all parties who support the activities, and he explained that the volunteer team is opening a donation for anyone who wants to help this project that will be conducted three times a week.

The target of this movement is not only for the underprivileged community but also for informal workers such as Gojek driver, pedicab driver, public transportation driver, and we also helped students in Surabaya that far away from their hometown. (*)
