UNAIR NEWS – COVID-19 Pandemic brings deep sorrow to the entire world community. As a result, various sectors such as industry and education are forced to stop and adapt to the situation. Furthermore, it has a significant impact on students who are currently staying within or near the university’s area in Surabaya during the COVID-19 outbreak.

In response to this, two UNAIR Indonesian Language and Literature students (Sasindo) and one alumni of Faculty of Medicine UNAIR initiated the establishment of Ksatria Swadaya Pangan (KSP). The program is a breakthrough from students as an effort to help their fellow students.

Wahyu Setyo Putro, as one of KSP program founder, explained that he read article news about a mother who died from not eating for two days due to Covid-19. Thus, he wants to help his fellow student around him.

“Some of the students are staying at their dorm to prevent the chain of Covid-19. Besides, it can be hard sometimes for them to fulfill their daily needs.” Wahyu explained on 29 April.

Therefore, KSP is a program that provides free food for students who are lives far away from their families. The selection process is through Google form link, and then students can fill in the data. Afterward, there will be a selection process by KSP team.

KSP provided not only logistical support for UNAIR students but also several other campus students in Surabaya. In fact, KSP’s main objective is helping students who needed the most.

“KSP was established on April 23, 2020, and then we immediately opened a donation by distributing posters and captions on our Instagram @ksp_surabaya. On Monday-Tuesday, April 27-28, we have handed over the food to several students, “explained the young man born in Rembang Regency.

“The response of students is quite big because more than 30 students from various universities in Surabaya filled out the data in the first three days. It makes us (KSP team, ed) happy to distribute the donations for students, “added Wahyu, who is also a volunteer in Airlangga Ksatria Floating Hospital.

Wahyu explained that KSP would distribute more free food for students, and he would invite more people to join KSP volunteers and donors. Hopefully, there will be more donations on the program. Thus the program can provide daily needs for students who needed the most. “We believe that kindness is contagious, and we are in this together. Let’s help each other, “he concluded. (*)
