UNAIR NEWS – Another academic achievement was made by students of Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga (FH UNAIR). Three UNAIR FH students, Dania Shofi M, Ulfah Septian Dhika, and Atiqoh Farhan Maulani managed to win Best Legal Opinion (LO) Competition category held by Indonesian Asian Law Student Association (ALSA). It was announced on Sunday, March 1, 2020.

In the competition, UNAIR students wrote about Talang Mamak traditional law community and won the Best LO, came on top of other universities in Indonesia such as Brawijaya University, Diponegoro University, and several other universities.

Atiqoh Farhan Maulani, or Iqoh, revealed that they chose the topic as there were not many parties wrote about it. According to her, the topic was interesting to be explored deeper.

“So why we were interested in discussing the topic because not many people have written about Talang Mamak traditional law community. And indeed the issue of traditional law is interesting to study, especially not many people know about it. Therefore, we wrote it so that it can be introduced to the wider society, ” she said.

In the preparation of the legal opinion, Iqoh admitted that she had experienced a little difficulty as it was quite difficult to get reading material and information.

“The difficulty is in the limited reading materials. Because it is difficult to find books or journals that specifically discuss the Talang Mamak traditional law community, ” said the sixth semester student.

“But fortunately we got help from lecturers who are experts in the field of traditional law. So it was very helpful, ” she added.

In the closing, Iqoh advised Faculty of Law students not to miss the opportunity to take part in the competition. “I’d like to encourage my FH friends, don’t be afraid to take the opportunity to compete. Because if we do not want to try, we would never be able to measure the extent of our ability. The point is, just try it first and keep doing your best, ” she concluded. (*)
