UNAIR NEWS – Planning and Development Board (BPP) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a meeting discussion with Applied Higher Education on Monday, January 3 in DSI Room, Campus C Management Building, UNAIR. Head of BPP UNAIR, Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco SE., MBA., Ph. D said this collaboration is also one of UNAIR’s effort in reaching 500 World Class University.

“We had a quite intense discussion with our friends from Singapore. Especially with one of the international rating agencies, Applied Higher Education, “he said.

The move was taken in line with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s policies. Where the industry actively involved in every process of education at the university, especially for applied science study programs. “Because these applied study programs are vulnerable when 4.0 industrial revolution began to emerge,” concluded Prof. Badri.

Latest research from the World Economic Forum forecasts that by 2025, machines will perform more current work tasks than humans, especially for work that is repetitive and does not require creativity.

He said the field of applied sciences would be more easily known for its rating compared to other tertiary institutions offering similar disciplines, such as Medical Science; Pharmacy Legal studies, and Accounting. “By participating in Applied Higher Education, we can understand ratings for applied study programs at UNAIR,” he said.

By taking this step, Prof. Badri said universities could reduce the gap between industry demand and what universities already have. “This step will bring us closer to understand the actual needs of the industry for the next five or ten years. Thus, we can overcome the existing skill gap, “he explained.

For your information, UNAIR has also been affiliated with other international rating agencies. Such as QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education.

In the end, Prof. Badri hopes the collaboration between these two parties will increase UNAIR’s competition in the international realm. “Thus, our graduates will be more appreciated from the rating of their study programs,” he said. (*)
