UNAIR NEWS – 3T Region (Frontier, Outermost, Disadvantaged) needs more attention not only by the government, but also by the community. It happens because the 3T region has low accessibility compared to other regions. For this reason, SCOLAH-Unair Mengajar (UM) this year re-initiated Pelangi program which is a community service activity in the educational aspect in the 3T region.

This year UM dispatched six teachers, Ganish Eka (FKM), Rarasanti Rania (Vocational), Ruhu A’yunil (FKM), Maulani Nur (Vocational), M. Nasrul (Vocational), and M Raihan (FEB). The program was conducted in SDN IV Ngadirejo, Brumbun Beach, Ngrejo Village, Tanggung Gunung Sub-district, Tulungagung from January 4 to January 24, 2020.

Not only teaching general learning materials, this year Pelangi is targeting moral education and manners for 3T students. The main theme was “Morality for the Future”, the team has systematically prepared a learning agenda in the form of a syllabus for months. Every day the Pelangi instructor gets two hours of time to provide subject matter both related to science and morals that are able to present new perspectives and understanding for students.

“Not only inside the classroom, we also try to build closeness with younger siblings outside the classroom. While playing on the beach we can tell stories, learn languages, and motivate students there, “said Maulani Nur, one of the teachers.

Meanwhile, Maulani as a teacher claimed to enjoy her activities in Brumbun. “I had an internship plan at first. But after being entrusted with this task, I think the responsibility to share with the younger siblings on 3T is far greater. Even though the coast of Brumbun and younger siblings have their own appeal as a vacation, ” she said.

Before Pelangi arrived on the coast of Brumbun, Brumbun students had various limitations such as a lack of teaching staff, educational facilities, and low student motivation. “Therefore, when we first arrived, even it was the third year in Brumbun, both residents, teachers, and students always gave us warm welcome,” said Arka as the person in charge of the activities.

Pelangi itself has been held for seven years in a row. This program has made its mark in two 3T regions, in Blitar area for four years and in Brumbun Beach area, Tulungagung in the last three years. Hopefully, the devotion carried out from year to year, students on the coast of Brumbun are able to obtain a complete education not only in the aspects of science but also morals. So, this program is able to inspire the community, students, and other agencies to share and serve in the 3T region. (*)
