UNAIR NEWS – In order to support Universitas Airlangga as World Class University, Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) held an international program called Summer Program. The program consists of various event that has its characteristics. One the event is AirVenture, an environment-themed, adventure-based activity, and getting to know Indonesian flora and fauna.
AirVenture 2019 is held in 3 cities, Surabaya, Banyuwangi and Bali. AirVenture 2019 activities will be held at Surabaya on Tuesday-Thursday, December 03-05.
Furthermore, AGE collaborated with Faculty of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (FPK) Universitas Airlangga, which was joined by 22 international students and 20 FPK students in the activity.
In the opening of AirVenture 2019 which was held in Building C, room 501 FPK UNAIR, Irfan Wahyudi, Ph.D as Head of International Program Division AGE gave a welcome speech to international students and explained the local culture to them.
Dean Coordinator, Ir. Agustono M. Kes, an FPK lecturer said international students could learn about fisheries and culture in Indonesia.
On the first day of this activity, three FPK lecturers explained fisheries information in Indonesia. The speaker was Dr. Woro Hastuti Satyantini, Ir., M.Si., Dr. Eng. Patmawati, S.Pi., M. Si and Dwi Yuli Pujiastuti, S.Pi., M.P.
Woro explained about fisheries in Indonesia. Then, Patmawati explained about modern fisheries processing in Indonesia and Yuli told about traditional fisheries processing in Indonesia.
One of the master’s students at Universiti Teknologi Petronas Rab Nawaz revealed that his goal in participating in the summer program was to find out about culture in Indonesia.
“Today I gained a lot of knowledge about fisheries in Indonesia, how to process it, as well as fish farming, and it is extraordinary,” he explained.
Nawaz explained that Indonesia has a lot of potential in fisheries and that potential could encourage the economic sector and prosperity for Indonesia. (*)
