UNAIR NEWS – Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Airlangga University (UNAIR) received great news. The three of their delegations won second place in National Corruption-Free Economic Student Conference (KMN EBK) X at FEB Gadjah Mada University on Thursday, October 31 until Saturday, November 2.
One of the delegates, Nadya Tiarasari confirmed this news. She said the conference was scientific writing (paper competition) for the student which took the theme of Exploring Corruption Cases in Natural Resource Management in Indonesia. Besides, the event also held a focus group discussion (FGD) session.
“There are several sub-themes including forestry, marine, mining and plantation sectors. Incidentally, our group chose to discuss mining. But for the FGD, we were separated to discuss other sectors. During the event, I collaborated with two of my classmates who were also one major, namely Raden Roro Widya Ningtyas Soeprajitno and Firstian Aprinia Sugiatmoko, ” Nadya explained.
On this occasion, Nadya with two colleagues compiled a paper about The Role of Entities in Disclosure of Corruption Handling in Mining Sector Companies in Indonesia. They found a correlation between Military Connection, Independent Board, and Board Size to disclose the handling of corruption cases in a mining company.
“For board size and military connections (companies that have links with military institutions), there is a positive effect to disclose corruption cases. While the independent council has no influence, “said her.
They were happy in joining the conference and among other things, establishing a network with students from various universities in Indonesia to find new insights about corruption cases that afflict the Indonesian natural resource sector.
“Moreover, conference participants come from different backgrounds from economics, law, to engineering. The obstacle that we faced while participating in the competition was a lack of legal perspective. Students should participate more, especially in the conference event “she concluded. (*)
