UNAIR NEWS – Ayu Nur Kholidah Yahya, D3 Secretariat and Office Management Student, Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) succeeded bring UNAIR alma mater on the national stage.
Ayu won third place at 2019 Office Day national competition held by Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on October 5-6. In the competition, she joined Grooming and Indonesian Public Speaking competition. Uniquely, she brought a pot of palm trees while giving a speech.
“Young generation must continue to hone their soft and hard skills because both are needed in the professional world. Working in administrators and secretaries field requires a student to have hard and soft skills, “she said.
According to Ayu, the reason she brought a palm tree during a speech because it symbolizes technology. We all know that technology is beneficial to us. Likewise, a tree is beneficial to the surrounding nature.
If technology continues to be developed, it will be more sophisticated. Likewise, a tree will grow to give many benefits. However, if technology or trees are misused, it will bring a negative impact on life.
In overcoming the negative things, it requires the ability to manage and maintain technology properly because we use technology to simplify and speed up our tasks.
“In Grooming and Indonesian Public Speaking contest, I gave a speech with the sub-theme Role of Technology in Modern Office because technology plays an essential role in the office, “she said.
During the competition, Ayu wore a black strip suit, a white bone shirt, with a simple black hijab. According to her, the outfit was simple and portrayed her as a young modern woman.
She also admitted the preparation was sudden, but she learned a lot from this competition. She advised that other UNAIR students should be brave in competing for a competition. (*)
