UNAIR NEWS – The era of globalization requires citizens to master foreign languages, especially English for the purpose of communication. It is still challenging and a burden for some people who have not been able to speak English well.

Responding to these problems, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held 2019 TOEFL AKBAR UNAIR for Surabaya residents and students in Surabaya. The event took place on Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22, 2019 at Language Center Building in Campus B, UNAIR, and attended by 1,200 participants.

According to Bagas Dipa Bramasta as Minister of Science and Creative Economy BEM FEB 2019, on this occasion, BEM FEB involved Zambert English Course from Semarang as a partner. The program was carried out because in this global era, besides technology, we are inseparable with English.

“English has become a universal language throughout the world that allows people from different countries, languages and cultures to communicate. English can now be found everywhere, both its use in social media, lectures, and even from everyday conversation, “he said.

English also plays a crucial role in the world of business and is one of the main requirements if you want to get a scholarship, especially abroad. To get official recognition for English language skills, anyone can take official English exams such as TOEIC, TOEFL, and IELTS.

The general standardization test used are TOEFL and IELTS. The two test certificates can be used to apply scholarships or work in various institutions, both national and multi-national agencies. Moreover, having a TOEFL or IELTS certificate with good grades seems to be a must-have obligation.

“This program begins with training on TOEFL practices, such as listening tips and tricks, grammar and structure, to reading. The next day, a TOEFL Prediction test was held to determine and test the participants’ English proficiency, “explained Bagas.

2019 TOEFL AKBAR UNAIR program is a part of English Development (E-Dev) work programs of BEM FEB UNAIR 2019 and the Zambert English Course. The program is expected to improve participants’ interest and knowledge about the importance of the TOEFL. Furthermore, it is also expected to help and facilitate the community in maximizing their English language potential and achieving good TOEFL scores. (*)
