Introduction to Three Robots of UNAIR Astrai Team

UNAIR NEWS – The Airlangga Strike Team Robotic and Instrumentation (Astrai) team is developing three types of robots since it was first formed in 2007. The three types of robots are Alegro (Airlangga Legged Robot) which is a legged fire-fighting robot; Ashuro (Airlangga Seni Humanoid Robot), dance robot; and football wheeled robot named Amuros (Airlangga Mobile Robot Soccer).

Amuros competed in the national level Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) organized by Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti) on June 20-23 at Dian Nuswantoro University, Semarang, Central Java.

“We competed at the National KRI, but unfortunately we only made it to the preliminary round,” explained Farhan as the team leader of Amuros.

Amuros itself is a robot that can maneuver and detect the presence of a ball. There is one keeper robot and two striker robots. The striker robot will lead and kick the ball towards the goal.

Not only Amuros, Alegro is the first robot that was developed by the Astrai team with regional achievements from robot competition at Stikom Surabaya Institute of Business and Information. Robot Alegro has two detectors to detect fire so it can extinguish the fire by scanning fire hotspots.

“Alegro has two detectors, light and fire. Alegro has been upgraded several times , ” Chorihuddin said while showing the Alegro robot.

Meanwhile, Ashuro is a robot developed in 2009 which translates music sounds into dance moves. Almost like humans, Ashuro can move his entire body. “So, it is really like a real human who dances,” added Chorihuddin.

Since its establishment, the Astrai team received support from UNAIR, especially UNAIR Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). The support is in the form of research funding for robot development and a work space as a laboratory.

From the last competition of Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI), Astrai’s team claimed to get many valuable lessons to prepare for the next robot competition. “Next year we are preparing for the championship. Because, we have learned a bit on what we lacked, where we excel, I think we could win for the regional KRI next year,” stated Farhan.

Astrai Team consists of students from UNAIR Automation System Instrumentation (OSI) Program Faculty of Vocational Studies. It is led by Muhammad Chorihuddin (2016) and there are 14 other members from class 2016 and 2017.  (*)
