The participants consisted of students and 18 micro, small and medium sizes enterprises (UMKM) people assisted by Surabaya City Trade Agency. They were very enthusiastic about listening to the presentations of the two speakers. In the guest lecture, participants can get various kinds of information about UMKM and the marketplace. The guest lecture also offers solutions to obstacles participants encounter when marketing their products through the marketplace.

According to Dr. Tri Siwi Agustina, SE., M.Si., as the person in charge of the management of small & medium enterprises (MUKM), the guest lecture was part of the effort to overcome students’ business constraints. “In MUKM course, students are assigned in groups to identify problems commonly encountered by UMKM,” she said.

Dr. Siwi continued that students were then asked to determine the priority of problems that would be solved. Students are also required to assist UMKM owners to implement the solutions to develop their business.

“With a directly-engaged learning method and interacts for almost six weeks with MUKM, students are expected to gain real experience in terms of managing small and medium micro businesses,” she said.

Dr. Siwi said the implementation of MUKM course was fully supported by the Promotion Department of Surabaya City Trade Agency which had recommended its UMKM to be assisted by students. (*)
