UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is the first university which conducts 2019 General Elections KKN in Indonesia. It was held from April 15 to May 3, 2019 with 106 students as participants. They were divided into nine groups and sent to areas in the city of Surabaya after accepted by East Java KPU.

After the KKN implementation, UNAIR held a student seminar on 2019 General Election Community Service Program (KKN) on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, in Kahuripan 301, 3rd Floor, UNAIR Management Office, Campus C. The seminar presented the results, evaluations, solutions, and innovations for the development of Community Service Program implemented every five years.

There were also Head of UNAIR Institute for Community Service and Development (LPPM) Dr. Eko Supeno, Drs., M.Si.; UNAIR Director of Academic Affairs Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA, drh; Secretary of LPPM; BP2D; Field Advisor (DPL); and representatives of 2019 General Election KKN participants.

In his remarks, Eko said that 2019 General Election KKN was implemented quite well. The students can complete their tasks well.

“From the report, it was found that electoral officers over 500 people died and more than 3000 were ill. We were alarmed and worried about the condition of the students, “said Eko.

“However, Alhamdulillah, all returned well and I am quite proud of what students are doing to serve democracy,” he continued.

Prof. Bambang also expressed his pride in Thematic Community Service Program developed by LPPM and needed by stakeholders. Hopefully, students learned a lot from the experience so they know how to interact well, have good communication skills, and solve complex problems of society.

“This General Election KKN activity is in line with UNAIR’s vision, especially for students as pioneers,” said Prof. Bambang.

“Being pioneers is UNAIR’s vision, so that this can be a pilot for the implementation of General Election KKN in the future for Indonesia,” he added.

The nine groups of students were distributed to areas with little community participation and areas prone to conflict and friction. They included Provincial KPU, Surabaya KPU, and seven urban areas in Surabaya: Gubeng, Tambaksari, Semampir, Kenjeran, Wonokromo, Sawahan, and Tandes. The students reported about the activities during the KKN, evaluation and suggestions for development were also presented by each group leader in the form of presentations, videos and photo documentation. (*)
