For Women’s March, BEM FISIP Holds Discussion

UNAIR NEWS –Women’s March is a protest held every year in some cities in the world. It is held to promote women’s right, immigration reform and fight against racial injustice.

Ministry of Politics and Strategics BEM FISIP UNAIR held a discussion on the latest gender issue. It was held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the back garden of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR.

The initiator of the discussion was Head of State Administration Student Association, Renata Jati and International Relations student Candra Hayu Prameswari. The discussion was about feminism and preparation for Women’s March Surabaya.

Minister of Politics and Strategics BEM FISIP UNAIR Elni Nainggolan  explained that the discussion was held to formulate ideas from FISIP and UNAIR regarding Women’s March. The result of the discussion will be the objectives for the protest on Sunday, April 28.

“As Women’s March will be held on Sunday, students need to go to the streets because it is a special movement and a message to fight injustice towards women,” Elni said.

In the discussion, Renata presented contemporary theories on feminism. She said that there are few reasons supporting feminism, the history, social feminism,  feminism and economical changes and its relation with politics.

Hayu also explained the importance of issues on children, gender, multiculturalism and gender perspective development. She said that gender equality is the issue and an objective of development as inequality will lower prosperity rate and the acceleration of the development.

Finally, the discussion was concluded with FISIP Voice, which condemns limited access for women to get education. There will be regular dissemination event on gender and they will create an excellent academic climate for all students in campus. (*)
