UNAIR NEWS – Community Service is one of the Higher Education Tri Dharma. For this reason, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Off Main Campus Program (PSDKU) in Banyuwangi held another community service in Sumber Asri Village, Purwoharjo Sub-district, Banyuwangi Regency.

The activity, held from April 19 to April 21, 2019, was one of Swine and Ruminant Care Division (SRC) work programs of Veterinary Medicine Student Association (HMKH) PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi. The theme was “Implementation of Veterinary Students Role through Community Service”.

From the data gathered from the committee, FKH 2019 community service was attended by 66 participants, 12 supervisors, several veterinarians and veterinary nurses as companions from Banyuwangi Regency Agricultural Agency and also lecturers of FKH PSDKU UNAIR. Regarding the activity, Dini Lifia as the head of Implementing Committee for FKH 2019 expressed her gratitude for the permission and a very good welcome from all the people of Sumber Asri Village. The FKH 2019 Community Service Event, she continued, was one of the big activities for FKH UNAIR.

“Therefore, hopefully this activity will provide a lot of knowledge and experience that can be obtained during this series of events,” hse explained.

Bodhi Agustono, drh. M.Si. as the supervisor of HMKH, added that FKH 2019 Community Service activity was one of the facilities for FKH students to study together with the community. For this reason, he hoped that students can take advantage of these learning opportunities.

“Because community service and field practice like this is very rare for us,” he explained.

Dr. Iwan Sahrial Hamid, drh. M.Si. as Head of PSDKU UNAIR Veterinary Medicine Program in Banyuwangi conveyed the same thing. According to him, community service is a way to implement the knowledge obtained in class to the public.

Veterinarians, he continued, are noble professions. For this reason, in understanding all the theories given in the classroom, students need to face the community directly.

“And that is not an easy thing. A prospective veterinarian must be able to understand the character of the community and it requires you to go directly to the community. FKH 2019 Community Service is a very good place to learn about it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sukadiyanto as the Head of Sumber Asri Village in his remarks said that as the host of this activity, he was very grateful as his village was chosen for FKH 2019 Community Service. According to him, Sumber Asri Village have many potentials especially in the field of livestock.

“Almost all people here have livestock such as cattle, goats and sheep. In addition, students can also directly see the activities of the people, farming and gardening. Hopefully you will feel at home and feel useful in the future, “he said.

At the end of FKH 2019 Community Service opening ceremony, there was a symbolic participation inauguration caps and placards were given to the Head of the Sumber Asri Village and Agricultural Agency of Banyuwangi Regency. (*)
