UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has many places for self-development for students. At PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi, student’s self-development forum called the Community of Interest and Talent (Komikat). One of the forum engaged in the fields of vocals is Student Choir (PSM).
Komikat which has the name of “Sunrise of Java”, began its journey in 2014. Met by UNAIR NEWS on March, 29 2019 Fiko Ainun Aisyiyah as Head of 2018/2019 period explained the struggle of PSM from beginning until now.
“Komikat PSM was established on the same year with PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi establishment on 2014,” he said
In beginning, it was established because of the strong encouragement from the leadership, and seeing the function of komikat in every official event at PSDKU. Although at first, it was only formed with small human resources and several obstacles like inadequate facilities but now PSM is a structured and organized organization.
“Giving the name, PSM itself was inspired by Banyuwangi nickname as”Sunrise of Java”, which means the sun rises for the first time on the eastern tip of the island of Java. Hopefully, it can brighten PSDKU UNAIR in Banyuwangi.” explained the student who is familiarly called Fiko.
Fiko also said that the first external event was held in Giri Sub-district anniversary on 2015. In its development, so far the achievements of internal arena included both UNAIR Anniversary and Airlangga Olympic Challenge (AIROC) performers.
“We also carry out routine training activities for the preparation of events in the odd semester, and focused on its management in the even semester,” he added.
In the future, the committee with 50 members planned to hold an external inaugural event in 2018. Titled “Sunrise Festival”, Fiko explained there will be acoustic competition, age category of 15-22 years.
“This activity is expected to improve the existence of PSDKU UNAIR especially in Banyuwangi,” he said.
In the end, Fiko also explained that Komikat PSM provides an opportunity for all students who have high commitment to join. There is no particular requirement for those who want to join Komikat PSM because the most important thing is that someone wants to process and contribute.
