UNAIR NEWS – Politics and health are two things that actually have an attachment in supporting people’s welfare. People still use stigma to put hatred towards political system in the scope of health.
“Health is always promoted in the political sphere. There were still many of us who are focused on employment but not in health sector. In fact, health is an investment in the future.” said Khairillah Fathin as the person in charge (PJ) of the routine review program in Airlangga Public Health Student Association (APHSA) division of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
The politics of health is inseparable from government policies regarding solving problems in the health sector. In addition, several program and opinion from each vice-presidential candidate were presented at third debate which discussed education, health, employment, and social and cultural issues.

“Moreover, students are expected to understand health on political realm and function in the future. Thus, students can be literate (understand, Red) about health in politics, not just listening and forgetting, “said Fathin.
This activity choosed stunting and BPJS as the theme, which are linked in the political and health spheres. In the discussion, there were Ilham Akhsanu Ridlo, S.KM., M.Kes, a lecturer from Department of Administration and Health Policy (AKK) of the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR.
Ilham said that politics can be regarded as government, as public life, and as conflict resolution. Besides that, politics always talks about power. While health is considered as the absence of disease and as a commodity.
“The politics of health is often interpreted as health care politics because usually the issues taken by political actors are about health services such as BPJS and the health services is more pressing on curative, “Ilham said.
“In fact, the interpretation of health is very broad. Starting from birth to death. All of that must be part of health issues discussion, but there were still a few politicians who talks about health sector” he continued
Ilham added that health politics should be a bridge to all health problems and finding the concrete solution. It can improve the welfare community and public health.
In the end, Fathin, PJ of the routine study, delivered a message to UNAIR students. Students should be wiser, more critical, and visionary, they must start action from now on (positive) because, students are the future leaders of Indonesia. (*)
