UNAIR NEWS – The last year of studies at college often brings reluctance to students. Not a few of them feel confused in planning their future goals or even fail in the job market event because they took the wrong strategies.
More than two hundred participants crowded the Convention Hall of Airlangga Convention Center, Campus C, Universitas Airlangga, on Thursday, March 14, 2019 to attend Airlangga Career Workshop 2019: Insider Tips for a Good CV and Successful Interview . Most of them are job applicants. However, most are still students from several institutions such as UNAIR, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The event was guided directly by Pertamina’s Human Resource official, Yusivadheti Norman. Siva opened the discussion session with self-introduction and general explanation about Pertamina. There are four important points that were conveyed such as Pertamina At a Glance, recruitment business processes, make your CV professional, and interview tips.
“What aspire you to apply to Pertamina? Yes, who doesn’t want to go to Pertamina? How is Pertamina? BUMN. What about it? Huge! “Siva said while imitating the behavior of several job applicants she had handled.
It suddenly triggered laughter from all participants. According to Siva, there are many things that must be done by job applicants. Finding information about the ins and outs of the company is very important so that prospective employees fully understand the intended position. There are two things that the recruiter holds firmly, soft competency and hard competency.
Therefore, candidates must have self-value, be competitive, be competent, and be active. Experience must be fostered from the start, especially for students. There are many ways that can be done, such as being active in organizations, participating in various activities and competitions.
“If you can’t compete one day you will experience VUCA ( Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity ). Today you are successful but tomorrow is full of uncertainty!”
Another thing that is also important is curriculum vitae (CV). It must include information that is needed and it is made clearly. In fact, several companies, both private and state-owned, have implemented online recruitment for effectiveness and making it easy for candidates. Siva also warned participants to be wary of fraud.
The last stage is the interview session. During interviews, applicants are not advised to ask trivial matters such as the job description. Appearance and attitude also demand attention.
