UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an opinion writing training on Tuesday, February 12 at Campus Management Office C. The activity were attended by around ninety lecturers from all faculties in UNAIR.
Prof. Djoko Santoso, Vice Rector 1 of UNAIR gave a speech while sharing his experience in writing opinions. Prof. Djoko also hoped that by holding the event, UNAIR lecturers would be more confident and motivated to write opinions.
“Hopefully from this room there will be at least ten percent new writers,” said Prof. Djoko.
In addition, Doan Widhiandono, opinion editor of Jawa Pos familiarly called Doan presented as a speaker for the event. On the occasion, Doan explained several reasons for rejecting an opinion article sent to Jawa Pos.
According to Doan, writing is selling. When a person sends the results of his writing to media, in this case newspaper, the writer is trying to sell his work.
The thing that needs to be considered by author to be accepted in media, the writer must align his writing with the media itself. In addition, author also needs to pay attention to the issues taken as material and writing structure.
“As a buyer, I will not buy items that do not suit me or items that will inconvenience me because I have a lot work to do.” said Doan.
In addition, Doan also emphasized that the most important thing is not writing ability. Instead, the ability to tell a story or storytelling.
“Write as you speak,” said Doan.
In storytelling, a person needs to choose and sort out the facts needed to support his writing. Then arranged carefully and set out in written form.
In closing, Doan reminded all participants that writing cannot be taught. However, writing skills can be transmitted by getting along and practicing with other senior writers.
