Strengthening Relations, UNAIR Holds Gala Dinner for QS Subject Focus Summit Participants

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga held a Gala Dinner at UNAIR Management Office Hall, Campus C, on Thursday, Jan. 24 2019. It was a part of UNAIR’s welcoming activities for QS Subject Focus Summit participants. The summit was held on Wednesday-Friday, Jan. 23-25 , 2019. It is a forum to discuss the latest issues in the world of health and medicine.

The speakers from the summit either health practitioners and high-ranking health university officials, from different countries were attending the gala dinner. There were representatives from seven countries, such as from Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Australia and the Philippines. UNAIR leaderships from the university management, faculty, and UNAIR institutions were also present for the occasion.

Rector of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., in his remarks welcomed the delegates. The commitment to improve education in health sector is expected from all parties including the delegates through collaborative programs in the future.

“Welcome to Universitas Airlangga and Surabaya, the second biggest city in Indonesia after Jakarta, Surabaya is home to various beliefs, ethnicities and cultures. The city known as the City of Heroes is the busiest city in Eastern Indonesia,” Nasih said.

Prof. Nasih also explained the history and profile of UNAIR. Two profile videos were also presented by Prof. Nasih. They were videos titled “Teaching Generation” which won in Taiwan and “UNAIR in Number”.

“At the moment, we are in Universitas Airlangga Management Office, and everything (campus management, ed) is focused here,” he said.

UNAIR is one of the leading universities in Indonesia and higher education center in the eastern Indonesia. UNAIR, continued Prof. Nasih, is committed to become a world-class university in 2020.

“As a world-class university, we want to contribute and solve problems on a global scale through Tri Dharma activities that include education, research, and community service,” he said.

“At the moment, our university has 14 faculties and one postgraduate school. From health, to social science with more than 35 thousand students studying full time, ” Prof. Nasih said.

UNAIR is also appointed by Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education as a leading research center for the establishment of Institute of Tropical Diseases (ITD). A number of global partnerships to support the internationalization continue to be strengthened by UNAIR. There are 100 active collaborations with leading universities across the world.

“On this occasion, I would like to give my deepest appreciation to our partners. Your contribution to our internationalization program is very important, ” Nasih said.

In the end, Prof. Nasih hoped the partnership would continue to be strengthened and improved, especially in an effort to bring greater impact globally.

“In 2019 and the upcoming years, we hope that collaboration between our universities can be expanded and explored further. We hope this collaboration will continue for years to come, and bring success to you and Universitas Airlangga, especially having a greater impact on creating a future in the global community, “he concluded. (*)
