UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga sent their student for internship abroad in the beginning of November. It was held at Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam. Four students from the D4 Radiologic Imagery Technology program were Alifatus Wahyu Nur Ma’rifah, Rizky Utami Ayuningdyah, Ayub Manggala Putra, and Iqbal Yusuf Wicaksono, who will be placed at Bach Mai Hospital Radiology Department.

It is the first for Faculty of Vocational Studies collaborated with one of major hospitals in Vietnam. The internship will be conducted for 3 months. Started from 5 November to 5 February, 2019. Not only internship, there will be a research involving two institution between Universitas Airlangga and Bach Mai Hospital.

After one week in Vietnam, there was an interesting experience for UNAIR internship student. To UNAIR NEWS, Alifatus admitted that she experienced culture shock. Started from the first day in Hanoi, when they arrived on airport, they were confused because they did not know their apartment location and since they cannot speak vietnamese languange, it made them hard to find the location.

“After three hours of waiting, we decided to take bus with the help of google translate, we took three bus and one of the bus took us to wrong place.” said Alifatus.

On the second day, all of UNAIR delegates had the opportunity to join Bach Mai Hospital event with Head of the Radiologic Imagery Technology program and Vice Dean I, Faculty of Vocational Studies for signing MoU and contracts during the internship. Followed by a hospital tour for students to get to know hospital facility. Then continued with city tour agenda on the third day, tourist attraction in Hanoi, one of them was Vietnam Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh Mauseloum.

“In the fourth day, we started the internship in Radiology Department room, Bach Mai Hospital. Radiology patients here can reach 2000 people every day. The equipments are really adequate, there were MRI is 6, CT Scan 8, General X-ray 7, more than 8 units USG, and also a nuclear medicine unit, ” explained Alifatus.

A week of doing internship in Vietnam really gave us more knowledge because the technicians were very enthusiastic to share their knowledge and experience. The languange barrier were no longer a problem for us because we can always use media to help us learn in there.

“For example, when a heart CT scan reached 30 per day, blood vessel CT scan or angiography that reached 40-60 patients per day, Mammography up to 30 patients per day, and general CT scan that reached 60 patients per day. “A case that was not familiar in Indonesia helped UNAIR delegates to learn and then apply it in Indonesia,” she concluded.
