The second day, on November 10, 2018, community service activities will be held by FK UNAIR alumni from year 1961-2011. As the name implies, “105 Lights in Surabaya Sky”, this year’s FK UNAIR Anniversary contributed to the community in the form of service in 105 different places in Surabaya.

The high enthusiasm of FK UNAIR alumni made the distribution of community service even wider, reaching 380 points in Surabaya. The event will be opened with the release of pigeons in the yard of FK UNAIR and continued with community service at each point simultaneously. The social services held by FK UNAIR alumni will also be recorded in MURI’s record.

Each year of alumni will conduct community service in 2 or more different points in the city of Surabaya. The forms of community service that will be carried out include the construction of latrines, counseling, Basic Life Support training for laymen and a team of 112 Surabaya City Government, mass circumcision, cataract surgery, cervical cancer screening, and other free health services.

Construction of latrines is one form of FK UNAIR’s support for the Open Defecation Free(ODF) program which is being promoted by the Surabaya Health Office. Head of 2018 Dies Natalis Committee, Prof. Dr. Budi Santoso, dr., Sp. OG (K) explains ODF is a condition that is achieved when each individual in the community does not defecate openly.

“Because the disposal of feces that does not meet the standard requirements is very influential in the spread of environmental-based diseases, so the transmission must be stopped. One of them is by facilitating the construction of latrines, “he explained.

The event will be continued with a “reünienacht” night to strengthen ties and there will be a launching of FK UNAIR’s latest application, IKA “Doctor” application at 18.00 WIB in FK UNAIR and enlivened by Ari Lasso. This bonding event was attended by all FK UNAIR academics and alumni with their families.

The last event will be held on November 11, 2018. FK UNAIR’s 105th Anniversary will commemorate 105 years of medical education in Surabaya and develop community insights in the field of medicine through community service and seminars. It is also expected to strengthen the relationship of FK UNAIR alumni ties, to establish friendship between generations, and also improve alumni creativity. (*)
