UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga gave its full support to the National Vaccination Acceleration Program carried out by the government. There were 3,557 UNAIR lecturers and administrative staff scheduled to get vaccinations for five days, from Saturday to Wednesday (March 27-31, 2021), at Airlangga Convention Center (ACC) Campus C.

“This program (vaccination, ed) is intended to accelerate the vaccination program, especially to support the government so that next semester, classes are expected to be carried out offline, to maintain the achieved standard of learning outcomes,” said UNAIR Director of Human Resources, Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., MP.

UNAIR received 3,557 Astra Zeneca vaccines from the government through Surabaya City Health Office. This amount is adjusted to the list of UNAIR lecturers and administrative staff who have not been vaccinated. The number of active UNAIR employees reaches 4,150 people.

“The rest have already been vaccinated, adjusted for priority clusters according to the provisions of the government,” she said.

For the program, the number of vaccinated people is expected to reach 700 people a day. In detail, there are seven shifts of vaccine delivery schedules for lecturers and administrative staff. It means that an average of 100 people is vaccinated every hour.

“From the comparison of the number of employees and the vaccination period, we made seven schedules and 1 hour of rest every day,” she said.

“It also avoids buildup in the implementation of vaccination. So, we must also run this program by prioritizing the discipline of implementing health protocols,” added Dr. Endang.

There are 457 people in elderly age groups from UNAIR staff data, and the majority are lecturers. According to Dr. Endang, the medical team at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) has prepared special procedures for vulnerable groups. A separate place for the elderly is provided for screening and data collection of comorbid diseases.

“We have data related to these vulnerable groups, the elderly, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. However, we also continue to coordinate with the Surabaya City Health Office and the provincial government. For example, it turns out that they already got their own vaccines, ” she said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, Sp.PD., KPTI-FINASIM., on the first day of vaccination, explained that his party had deployed approximately 100 medical personnel to support UNAIR’s vaccination program, especially in non-administrative sections.

“UNAIR Hospital dispatches each team, there are 20 vaccinators (part of vaccine administration). It can also be added, adjusted to the needs. However, basically UNAIR Hospital is ready to support vaccinations at Universitas Airlangga and communities outside UNAIR, ” he said.

“The follow-up procedure for this vaccine (Astra Zeneca) will be done in two months. Vaccine recipients will get the vaccine again, “added Prof. Nasronudin.
