UNAIR NEWS – Starting college is in itself a challenge for prospective new students. Airlangga Education Expo (AEE) 2022 held a talk show titled Exploring Self Potential to Enter University on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Dr Dewi Retno Suminar MSi said the college period is not only about entering university and graduating to become a graduate. Therefore, it is essential for every individual to know themselves and explore their self-potential when entering the university.

Dr. Dewi revealed that the journey of being a college student is the same as any other journey. “First, we have to look at the terrain we are going into. The college can be seen from its alumni, and can also be seen from the lectures in that place,” explained the Developmental Psychology expert.

Furthermore, preparing ‘provisions’ became an important thing to enter university. The first provision lies in the ability of qualified cognition in a field. “Here the importance of knowing the self-potential that can be used to enter a suitable faculty,” she explained.

Financial resource, she continued, became a necessary provision that can be overcome now by using the Indonesia Smart Card-College (KIP) or other available scholarships. “At AEE, you can visit the (Directorate of) Student Affairs booth to find out the availability of scholarships,” said the Senior Lecturer of Faculty of Psychology (FPsi).

On the second day of the AEE 2022, she also mentioned that many students failed in the middle of the journey despite having good cognitive and financial provisions. College life has various challenges, including increasingly high-quality demands and competition from other students.

As a result, students without strong personality will be challenged to survive achieving their dreams of becoming a scholar.

“Grit is perseverance and consistency in doing our interest. Develop a positive attitude, find a supportive environment, and see everything as a challenge. Ready for a very dynamic change is the key towards a tough personality,” she said. (*)
