UNAIR NEWS – Bidikmisi recipient alumni from Universitas Airlangga has started to provide educational funding support for students, especially at the high school level. The program titled “From Alumni for the Country” was aimed to reduce the number of high school students dropping out of school due to financial issues. Through this program,  UNAIR Bidikmisi alumni are committed to delivering scholarship recipients to continue their studies to college.

The initiative was started from five Bidikmisi alumni discussions with the member of Unair Bidikmisi Organization (AUBMO). They were Andika Kelana Putra, Daris Ilma, Zainatul Ilmiyah, Muhammad Iqbal, and Vivi Nur Khomsati.

“We became alumni, the discourse to give back to the society has always been within us, but it came and went until finally, we hung out several times, and we came up with the idea of some kind of educational assistance,” said Andika to UNAIR NEWS on January 23.

The path to helping high schoolers, he continued, was aimed to support the student to finish their education at high school and continue to university. His party also supported various SDGs achievements, such as SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities.

Furthermore, regarding the technical implementation of the scholarship program, Andika said that the target of scholarship recipients for each batch is not set because, according to Andika, the number of recipients will adjust to the number of donors.

“In terms of donors, there are two types, one-timer, and there is a monthly subscription. But if the donors want to stop and all, it’s okay. We will not force them,” Andika explained.

Aid from the donors is given to each scholarship recipient about 500 thousand per month. It can reduce the tuition fee cost of the recipients. It can also ease the burden of recipients’ parents.

“Their parents should not feel troubled because we understand fully and have felt the difficulty of paying the tuition. Hopefully, what we do could be useful for high school students. Hopefully, the donors will also increase so that there are more students aided,” he concluded.
