UNAIR NEWS – RuangGuru held another Campus Talk event on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. This time, RuangGuru collaborated with the Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) UNAIR. The Associate Vice President for Business & Operations of RuangGuru, Hadi Wijaya, was presented as the speaker. In the event, Hadi explained how digital companies innovate in their development.

Hadi said that technology development in the 21st century is accelerated and exponential. Citing Harari’s predictions in his book Homo Deus, he believes that computer algorithms will increasingly control the world. Even in 2020 ago, the five most prominent companies in the world were all engaged in the world of digital technology.

“The digitalization of almost all aspects of human life has been accelerated by the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The potential for the digital world in improving people’s lives is also getting bigger,” said the alumnus of Binus University.

In this regard, Hadi explained how the products offered by digital companies continue to develop through various innovation steps, starting from product design competitions to food/beverage recipes such as those applied by LEGO and Starbucks. Another example includes collaboration and co-creation to increase market reach, such as McD x BTS Meal and KFC Cheetos products.

“But what is commonly used by digital companies, especially big data companies, is the me-too strategy. For example, TikTok pioneered the short video feature on social media. Now, this feature can also be enjoyed on Instagram and YouTube. In digital innovation, the question is no longer related to the originality of ideas, but how consumers can enjoy the realization of these ideas,” said Hadi.

Hadi explained that company elements must establish collaboration among other sectors to implement the innovative steps. In a customer-centric company, the problem scenarios obtained from consumers are definitely intersectoral. He added that companies should have work teams from various sectors, such as marketing, internal, and creative design.

“Because the key to an innovative company is not how perfect we build a product, but how fast we can create a minimum product to be immediately launched to the market,” said the official of RuangGuru.

Lastly, Hadi emphasized that the development of this innovative digital company has made careers related to technology such as data analyst, software developer, and graphic designer very strategic. In addition, the scenarios of challenges and problems encountered in this career path are interdisciplinary and intersectoral.

“Therefore, Gen-Z must be ready to learn many things, and at the same time determine the specialization of your abilities,” he concluded.
