UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga students have given relief aid for victims of the Semeru eruption occurring some time ago. The relief effort was based on data in the field regarding the urgent needs of the victims.

Most of the aid collected was in the form of baby and child supplies and food, such as complementary foods, biscuits, baby milk, sardines, baby diapers, baby powder, telon oil, and blankets.

“Shortly after the disaster occurred, my team and I immediately initiated a fundraising program. After that, we also surveyed the logistics needed so that our assistance is useful and helpful,” said Raka Ibrahim Faiz Syafrisal as the Distribution Coordinator of the Semeru Disaster Aid, FK UNAIR.

The fundraising collaborates with several parties, such as KalaKrisis and East Java Millennial Volunteers, and community social organizations founded by FK UNAIR alumni. Furthermore, the distribution is carried out directly through the East Java BPBD.

“Thank God, yesterday (12/14/2021), we distributed our assistance through the East Java BPBD,” said the 2019 student.

Bige Agus Wahyuono, the Head of Logistics for BPBD East Java, has fully appreciated the distribution of this aid. Donors do not send aid directly to the disaster area, so it is easy for coordination, and the items distributed are indeed items currently needed at the post and shared kitchen in the disaster area.

Through this fundraising, Raka hopes that all the relief aid distributed can help ease the burden on the affected community. “Hopefully, the situation in the disaster area can recover soon,” he said.

For information, the eruption of Mount Semeru occurred on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 15.00 WIB. As a result of the eruption, 48 people died, 18 people were hospitalized, and 9,997 refugees were registered at the Mount Semeru Eruption Emergency Response Post. In these emergency conditions, logistics is urgently needed, especially for babies and children. (*)
