Strengthening Pancasila values, Mahfud MD holds meeting with UNAIR professors

UNAIR NEWS – The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) said seven campuses were exposed to radicalism, including Universitas Airlangga. Moreover, the statement was also strengthened by the SETARA Institute, which stated that Universitas Airlangga was one of 10 campuses in Indonesia that were exposed to radicalism.

In response to this issue, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Menko Polhukam RI), Mahfud MD, held a meeting with the council of professors at Universitas Airlangga, Saturday, October 23, 2021. In his speech, Prof. Mohammad Nasih, as Rector of Universitas Airlangga, said that the Pancasila values ​​at UNAIR shown with two principles, excellence and morality.

“We continue that value in several jargons that have extraordinary values packaged in HEBAT,” said Prof. Nasih.

On that occasion, Prof. Nasih said the values of Pancasila were realized in the form of integration. At least, Universitas Airlangga has combined religious and national subjects.

“It is the implementation of Pancasila values that we don’t apply directly to UNAIR,” he said.

The activity entitled “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in the Internalization of the Pancasila Ideology” was attended by all levels of the Universitas Airlangga academic community. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mahfud MD, stated the purpose of his visit to Universitas Airlangga. It was the task given by President Joko Widodo regarding the possibility of radicalism in the campus environment.

“Is it true that UNAIR, which is surrounded by a religious and nationalist environment, is affected by campus radicalism? Therefore, I have a schedule to come to campuses, and I have visited almost all of them,” he explained.

Mahfud MD added that UNAIR has integrated Pancasila values ​​in the campus environment.  UNAIR has also placed all activities in the framework of nationalism in Pancasila. It is in accordance with UNAIR’s motto, namely Excellence with Morality.

“That’s why there is an excellence with morality, it’s intellectual growth and morality that develops well, now our morality is based on Pancasila,” he said.

The event held in a hybrid manner at the Garuda Mukti Hall and broadcast live on the Universitas Airlangga Official Youtube Channel, attracted attention because Universitas Airlangga was rumored to be indicated as a campus exposed to radicalism.

“UNAIR is a university under the government and there’s should not be any doubt regarding their loyalty to the Republic of Indonesia,” said Mahfud MD. (*).
