UNAIR NEWS – Another proudest achievement was made by one of the D4 (Four-Year Vocational) Traditional Medicine students, Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in the National Sports Week (PON) XX in Merauke, Papua. The student, Alisya Mellynar, is a gold medalist in the wushu sports category.

The First Gold Medal in PON Events

When interviewed, Alis revealed that she never thought to take home the gold medal. Of course, she felt very happy to get this achievement. It was the first gold medal for Alis in the PON events.

“This is the first time for me to take part in PON, so I also don’t have a target to get on the podium,” said the 2019 student.

Before participating in the PON competition, Alis routinely carried out training both at the regional level in Surabaya and at the national training center (Pelatnas) program in Jakarta. Her coach directed all forms of training that Alis did.

Alis revealed that she started to practice wushu because of her cousin when Alis was ten years old. After three years of practice, in 2014, she began to engage in wushu seriously and managed to get fourth place in a competition in Yogyakarta.

“Initially, I only followed my cousins, but my parents continued to support me and had always taken me to practice for three years. I decided to be more serious because I also wanted to make my parents proud,” said Alis on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Other Achievements at National to International Levels

Previously, Alis had managed to obtain several other achievements. At the national level, she made achievements at the Junior and Senior Wushu National Championships in Semarang in 2017, the Junior and Senior Wushu National Championships (Presidential Cup and Raja Sultan Hamengkubuwono X Cup) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in 2018, as well as the Junior and Senior Wushu National Championships (Presidential Cup and PON 2020 Qualification Round) in Bangka Belitung.

Meanwhile, at the international level, she won one gold and one silver at the International Borneo Martial Arts Open, Sibu, Malaysia, in 2017. She also managed to get two golds at the 3rd World Taijiquan Championships, Burgas, Bulgaria, in 2018.

“In every competition, I always want to give the best for my coach and parents, but sometimes my desire is also a burden for me,” she said.

In the future, Alis hopes to make more achievements. However, learning from previous experience, Alis will not set so many targets or high expectations. She will still give her best effort, but she will also leave the rest to the Almighty.

“In my opinion, when you have decided to do something, don’t give a half-hearted effort. When you do something that is not sincere from the heart, the results obtained will also not be as high as expected, “said Alis.

Finally, Alis also said that when there is no motivation, try to see the struggles of those around you. According to her, the efforts of others will be in vain when there is no self-awareness.

“So, in my opinion, if we have received many sacrifices from other people, for example from parents, at least we can also make the same sacrifices for them,” she said. (*)
