UNAIR NEWS – In commemoration of the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), FF UNAIR held a Dies Natalis themed “Strengthening Synergy in Maintaining Performance and Advancement of Pharmacy during Covid-19 Pandemic” on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. It was held online through the Zoom Meeting and YouTube platforms.

On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zainudin, Ms., Apt. as a lecturer of FF UNAIR, gave a speech entitled “ From Fixed to Growth Mindset.” In his speech, Prof. Zainudin said that judging by the high competition rate in the 2021 SBMPTN, FF UNAIR received great attention from the community.

“The performance and progress of FF UNAIR have been very successful. It must be better in the future. However, to achieve this, of course, there will be threats. They include the era of disruption 4.0 and COVID-19. To strengthen synergy in maintaining pharmaceutical performance and progress under these conditions, we must have a growth mindset,” he said.

He said that in dealing with these problems, FF UNAIR needs to adapt and make innovations. Furthermore, FF UNAIR must collaborate with other fields of science, such as Medicine, Economics, Psychology, and Law. According to him, such collaboration is a powerful way to respond to changes.

Changes in mindset and culture are very important in the era of disruption 4.0 and the COVID-19 pandemic. Changing from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset must be done in response to the new paradigm. According to Psychology of Success, a growth mindset will produce fresh and fertile fields. Meanwhile, a fixed mindset will result in barren, dry fields, he added.

“People with a growth mindset have the mind to learn whatever they want. If he fails and gets frustrated, he will persist, happy to challenge himself. If they fail, people with a growth mindset will learn from failure. If friends are successful, they will be inspired. His effort and attitude determine everything, and he is happy to be considered a hard worker,” he explained.

He continued, people with a growth mindset need to challenge themselves to become a leader, not just a manager. According to him, a leader must behave hasto broto.

“A leader must be like the sky, visionary and broad-minded. A leader must be like the wind, able to position himself. Must be like fire, work thoroughly and give solutions. Like the sun that gives light, energy, and motivation,” he said.

Leaders must also behave like a calm ocean and accept anything like the earth, which is honest without favoritism. He added that leaders must be like stars who can be an example, like the moon that can provide shade.

At the end, Prof. Zainudin encouraged others to strengthen the synergy. All components must have the same vision, mission, and goals. All components must also have a Sherpa spirit, persuading, awakening, initiating, helping lecturers and students to achieve their goals sincerely. (*)
