UNAIR NEWS – Confirmed cases of Covid-19 are still heading towards alarming numbers. An infodemic exacerbates conditions that have not yet improved. Quoted from the website of the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, infodemic is excessive information about a problem that confuses and interferes with finding solutions to the problem.

As a university with great concern for the community, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga contributes through a special page containing important information and explanations about Covid-19. With a page on http://fisip.unair.ac.id/seputar-covid, information on Covid-19 handling, convalescent plasma donors, and oxygen provision in Indonesia can be accessed by public.

Vice Dean III of FISIP UNAIR Irfan Wahyudi S.Sos., M.Comms., PhD mentioned the special reason why the orange campus providing the page. “We see that that the threat is not only the pandemic, but also the infodemic WHO had warned us from the start. So, FISIP felt the need to provide a page accessible by the public to find their needs in current conditions,” he said.

Web pages that the public can easily access are one of the small movements expected to help the public deal with excessive disinformation in cyberspace. Even though it has gone through the verification and validation process, FISIP does not forget to advise the community to re-confirm the data listed to minimize errors.

FISIP provides updates daily on important information to be disseminated to the wider community. “Daily updates are certainly done, but because FISIP is not the main provider in the health sector, we focus on easy access to information,” he explained.

In addition to this page, in carrying out community service related to the ongoing pandemic, FISIP also has a research grant scheme or independent research conducted by lecturers and students for long-term impact. (*)
