UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga has made another proudest achievement. A doctoral student in Medical Science, Nanda Yuli Rahmawati, has made an international achievement. With the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (FK), Prof. Budi Santoso, SpOG(K) and team, they won three awards at The International Joint Conference on Medical Engineering, Science, and Technology (iMEDiST). The three awards were Best Presenter on Medical Science Track, Best Paper on Medical Science Track, and Best of The Best or being the best of all competition categories.

The student, Nanda, never expected would win many awards in the competition organized by the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Moreover, the woman who did not have a professional background as a doctor must present a topic about medical science.

“What’s interesting about this competition is that I was able to prove that it is possible for someone who is not a doctor to discuss material about medicine as long as we want to try. Moreover, the full paper we sent was received without any revision from the reviewers, ” she said.

In the competition held on June 29-30, Nanda and the team discussed endometriosis. Endometriosis is a gynecological disease in women that can cause reduced fertility.

Endometriosis causes an attachment to the reproductive organs and produces a toxic fluid that can thwart the process of fertilization and pregnancy. Through this research, the student from Tuban hoped that her research could continue and be developed as a diagnostic tool to detect the severity of endometriosis.

Certificate of achievement

Asked about the obstacles when preparing for the competition, the student admitted that it was quite challenging to make the video presentation as she had to re-take for few times to ensure the quality of the video is worth showing.

“Because the participants of this conference come from various countries, our video presentation must also be good so that the results can make FK UNAIR proud,” she said.

Finally, Nanda did not forget to encourage other UNAIR students to make deadlines in pursuing their dreams. According to her, we need to be consistent and think positively that every dream will surely come true as long as we are willing to work hard.

“Hopefully, this victory can inspire and motivate others to continue to excel,” she concluded. (*)
