UNAIR Hospital Holds Symposium on HIV / AIDS Management

UNAIR NEWS – According to data of HIV AIDS Information System (SIHA) from the third quarter of 2018, the cumulative number of HIV infections reported as of September 2018 reached 314,143 people while AIDS infections reached 111,973 people. East Java is one of the provinces with the highest number of infections with 45,557 people with HIV and 19,533 people with AIDS.

Seeing this problem, Universitas Airlangga Hospital (UNAIR) held a symposium entitled “Current, Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary HIV / AIDS Management” at Isyana & Rajasa Ballroom, Bumi Surabaya City Resort, on Saturday, April 13, 2019 which was divided into eleven sessions.

Attending at the event were students, academics, and practitioners from various health personnel such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and midwives.

There were representatives of Indonesian Ministry of Health, East Java Provincial Health Agency, UNAIR Management, director of UNAIR Hospital, representatives of RSUD Dr. Soetomo, and Dean of Medicine UNAIR.

Cahyo Wibisono Nugroho, dr., Sp. PD. FINASIM, as chief executive of the activity, said that the symposium was expected to improve health services for people with HIV / AIDS in Indonesia. In the symposium attended by various health practitioners, there was also a a book launching on HIV / AIDS from various disciplines.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nasronuddin, dr., Sp.PD, K-PTI, FINASIM., Director of UNAIR Hospital in his speech, said that HIV / AIDS has become a global and national problem. The comprehensive and up-to-date approach is the selection of appropriate actions to overcome the problem of HIV / AIDS as HIV infection do not considers time, age and sex.

“The approach taken by the committee is very appropriate, comprehensive and up-to-date. Because, HIV infection knows no time, age and sex, “he said.

“So, the approach must be comprehensive from all lines, both covering prevention, environment, treatment, and scientific dissemination and continued with surveys and research,” added Prof. Nasronuddin.

Representing UNAIR Rector, UNAIR Vice Rector III Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D opened the symposium and launched the book on HIV AIDS Management. He said that the symposium was very important because HIV AIDS handling requires development and new innovations based on experience and studies by various groups.

“In comprehensive management, it involves many parties who must support each other. Doctors, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, counselors, and even social volunteers are needed,” he said.

“Here we need coordination and harmony between stakeholders. Comprehensive treatment will make patients handling more effective and efficient, “added Prof. Amin.

The symposium is a routine program conducted by UNAIR Hospital, to carry out an event with health education theme, especially in terms of health services. (*)
