UNAIR NEWS – The academic community members of Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), from the students, lecturers, and administrative staff, are developing various innovative innovations intensively.

One of the innovations successfully patented is the MSME Accounting Information System (SIAKM). The innovation created by an Information System lecturer D3 (three-year vocational) program, Fitri Retrialisca, S.Kom., M.Kom., is a website-based financial management application for MSME practitioners.

According to Fitri, SIAKM makes it easier for MSME practitioners to manage financial and accounting records. It is undeniable that small businesses at the level of MSMEs often mix business income and expenses with family needs.

Fitri revealed that SIAKM innovation emerged from the sad story of a culinary business owner. The business almost went bankrupt because several employees embezzled money from business’ production budget and sales.

“MSMEs tend not to pay attention to financial records properly as long as the business is still running. Meanwhile, incoming and outgoing money is not recorded properly, so we do not know the profit and loss. With this SIAKM, we hope to help MSMEs record their financial reports so that their business processes run well,” Fitri said on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

The SIAKM development process was not done alone. Fitri was assisted by her colleague, Riza Nidhom Fahmi, S.ST, Alumnus of PENS (Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya). Both of them designed SIAKM to be a complete financial application with 12 menus in it, such as Employee Data, User Data, Supplier Data, Product Data, Dashboard, Inventory, Trial Balance, Sales, Purchases, Transactions, Transaction Posting, Cafe Reports.

SIAKM also allows users to obtain information on some financial reports according to the desired accounting period, such as profit-and-loss reports, sales reports, and balance reports.

Fitri said that SIAKM was officially patented in December 2019, exactly one year and eight months since the innovation was created. Dozens of MSMEs have used this innovation, including 20 MSMEs under the guidance of Diskoperindag (Industry and Trade Agency) Gresik Regency since 2019 and a cafe business in Makassar since 2018.

“From the results of our research, 70 percent of users found this application helpful even though there were problems such as lacking IT knowledge or other minor problems,” she said.

Knowing that her ideas can be useful for the community, Fitri admitted that she is motivated to create more innovations. In the future, she hoped to build an e-commerce for MSMEs. (*)
