UNAIR NEWS – The 33rd Airlangga Online Career Fair (AOCF) was opened on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 with a webinar entitled Online Recruitment Hacks. The webinar invited Laura Andiny, one of BCA’s human resources (HR) officers.

At least, there are four tips from Laura in facing online recruitment. They are related to CV, online assessments, interviews, and medical check-ups.

2 Minutes CV Screening

In writing a CV, there is some information that must be available. For BCA especially, the information that must be listed on CV includes relevant personal, educational, and experience information. Personal information includes at least the place and date of birth, address, email address, telephone number, marital status, and recent photograph. Ensure the photo to look neat, professional, and latest photo.

“Usually recruiters will contact applicants via telephone numbers and e-mails so it is better not to change email and telephone numbers,” said Laura.

In addition, start a habit to check e-mail regularly, not only in your inbox but also spam and trash to make sure applicants do not miss the interview invitation sent by e-mail. Companies that use corporate email, e-mail has the potential to enter spam.

For the educational information, educational information from high school and college is necessary. When listing educational information, it is important to attach a major and a GPA.

“The GPA is the main gateway into the company’s system. Therefore, apart from being active in organizations, it is also important to pay attention to the GPA,” she continued.

In the information related to experience, be sure to include experiences that are truly relevant to the position being applied for. If the experience of organizations, competitions and courses is not well known to the public, a brief description should be included.

Online Assessment

After passing the system screening, the company will usually send an invitation for an online test. Make sure applicants read the instructions on the e-mail. If there is a link for practice, then the applicant should do the exercise to familiarize themselves with the test. “It needs a lot of practice to get used to it, and just be yourself when you answer,” said Laura.

When working on the questions, Laura advised the participants not to think too long because it would reflect their desired self-image, not themselves. And they do not have to guess the direction of questions and answers.

Online Interview

Do lots of interview practice. Exercises can be done alone or together with others. The goal is to be more relaxed in facing the interviewers.

During interview, it is important to pay attention to appearance. Use appropriate clothes, covering tops and bottoms to avoid embarrassment when mistakes happen during the interview“Pay attention to body language, pay attention to intonation, and eye contact, ” said Laura.

When answering questions, answer using STAR method, which is situation, task, action, and result. Applicants also need to be themselves because HR looks at the culture and potential of the prospective applicant whether it will suit the company and can be improved. Apart from HR, users will also conduct interviews in more technical fields such as the applicants’ abilities needed to become parts of their team.

Medical Check Up

Not all companies carry out medical check-upsHowever, BCA pays attention to the length of time a candidate can work at the company, medical check-ups are important. Tips from Laura to pass a medical check-up include getting used to drinking mineral water, eating nutritious food, getting enough rest, and exercising regularly. This habit needs to be done as early as possible.

“HR is actually looking for someone who is the most appropriate for the company, not the smartest or most famous, don’t be discouraged and show the best side of yourselves,” she concluded. (*)
