UNAIR NEWS – Professor of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Prof. Dr. Bagong Suyanto, Drs., M.Si. has recently received an award as #1 Best Researcher of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) by Google Scholar. It was officially announced by the UNAIR Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPJPHKI) at the end of 2020.

For some people who know the Dean of FISIP, the news is not very surprising. Prof. Bagong is known to be active in writing since he was a student. Based on Google Scholar data, until now there are at least more than 240 books and articles he has written.

Prof. Bagong has high H-Index value and a high number of citations. He admitted that it was influenced by the quantity of his works.

“Maybe because I have written for a long time, from being a student until now. That’s probably what made my score high. The more we write, the greater the chances for our works to be cited, “he said when contacted by the editorial team Wednesday evening, January 6, 2021.

For the 55 year old lecturer, writing has been his pride, especially when his work cited by many people.

Data from Google Scholar reveals that a book, Sociology of Introductory and Applied Texts, that he wrote with colleagues in 2004 has been cited 820 times, followed by Social Research Methods: Sharing Alternative Approaches (2015) with 730 citations, and Social Research Methods (2005) with 633 citations.

“I continue writing and every year I have research activities, I write articles, I publish books, ”he said.

But most importantly, he continued, writing must be consistent. It means that it continues, especially in the field of his work.

Regarding this achievement, Prof. Bagong believes that this is one way to build an academic culture. The goal is to encourage lecturers to be productive through their written works.

“Hopefully, it can inspire other friends to continue producing written works in any form, whether writing simple popular articles, journal articles, or books, “he concluded. (*)
