UNAIR NEWS – Student Association of Information Systems (SI) Diploma program Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a Start Up Digital 3.0 entrepreneurship webinar entitled ” How to Start a Career as Start Up Technopreneur”  on Sunday, October 18, 2020. In the webinar, Niki Tsuraya Yaumi as COO and CO-Founder of Goers was attending as the main speaker.

Niki explained that an entrepreneur is not just a business owner, but also someone who solves a problem. To become an entrepreneur, the first thing you can do is look for problems. As you have a problem, focus on solving the problem and trying to identify a solution that can solve the problem.

“So, an entrepreneur is someone who is constantly looking for better ways to do something, is willing to take risks, and tries to make it happen,” she explained.

For example online transport entrepreneurs, they focus on helping people who need to move from one place to another or move an item from one place to another. This effort is trying to make it easier for consumers and drivers because wherever the drivers, they can get orders.

Before starting a business, it is important to determine the reasons why you should start the business. According to Niki, there are several reasons why someone wants to become a tech entrepreneur. The first reason is the image that tech entrepreneurs are glamorous.

“What the media sees, being a tech entrepreneur is fun, party a lot, live glamorously. However, in reality, start-up founders have to spend hours in front of their laptops to build their start-up,” said Niki.

The second reason is to be the boss, the top of the pyramid in an organization. “In reality, when you become the boss, everyone around you is your boss,” she explained.

Then, flexibility is the third reason people want to become tech entrepreneurs because working time is determined by themselves. In fact, working time is flexible, but it also allows individuals to work 24 hours a day.

The fourth reason, usually people think that being an entrepreneur will make a lot of money. However, as the founder of a newly released start-up, achieving good financial returns will take a long time.

According to Niki, the best reason to start a start-up is when individuals can’t do anything but do it. As an individual feels compelled to start developing a start-up idea, there is passion for the start-up idea .

“Then, make sure you have aptitude (talent, ed), you have the ability and understanding that the world needs you to do the idea, because otherwise the world will not change,” explained Niki.

Niki explained, even if you don’t start a business, you can still be an entrepreneur, someone in an organization who has an entrepreneurial mentality, focuses on solving problems and building solutions with efforts, creativity, and innovation.

Meanwhile, the head of the event, Regita Rahma Izazi, said that the webinar was a work program of science division of Student Association of Information Systems (SI) Diploma program. It was held to provide insight and knowledge on how to build a businesses, especially start-ups.

“This activity aims to provide insight, knowledge, on how to build a business, especially a start-up, ” she said. (*)
