Geliat Airlangga gives Covid-19 education to the community through webinar

UNAIR NEWS – The movement for Healthy Mothers and Children to Build a Bright Family-Based Generation, or commonly known as Geliat Airlangga held a webinar as a form of education for educators, especially for kindergarten during COVID-19 pandemic on Friday, October 2. The topics raised included the role of Geliat Airlangga in child protection, the introduction of SARS-CoV-2 Virus, the impact of COVID-19 on children and its prevention, and 3M (Wearing Masks, Washing Hands, and Maintaining Distance).

This national online seminar which was held through zoom was not only attended by participants from East Java, but also attended by several participants from Jambi, South Kalimantan, and other provinces in Java Island. Besides, the webinar “GELIAT Airlangga for Indonesian Children” was also attended by representatives from UNICEF, Surabaya City Education and Culture Office, BP PAUD, Tulungangung Child Protection Institute, Faculty of Psychology Team at Universitas Airlangga, Sahabat Anak Journalist Team, the Children’s Education Unit. Surabaya City Early Age, as well as the Airlangga Team.

The webinar with the theme “Self Protection in the Covid-19 Period with 3M (Wearing Masks, Washing Hands, and Maintaining Distance)” presented several speakers, namely, Dr. Nyoman Anita Damayanti, drg., MS as PIC Geliat Airlangga; Prof. Dr. Fedik Abdul Rantam, drh. as Professor of Virology & Immunology, Stem Cell, and Molecular Biology; Leny Kartina, dr, Sp.A (K) as a Child Health Specialist Dr. Soetomo; and Dr. M. Atoillah Isfandiari, dr., M.Kes. as Lecturer in Epidemiology FKM UNAIR.

Dr. Nyoman Anita Damayanti, as the speaker explained that one of the causes that can increase children’s vulnerability to COVID-19 transmission is not getting complete primary immunization for children aged 12-23 months.

“Therefore, let’s remind our families because immunization will provide immunity to children, even though this is not immunization for COVID, “he added.

Besides, preventive measures that can be applied in preventing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus are to do 3M. “In dengue fever, there is 3M which stands for draining, closing and eliminating trash. If in COVID, the abbreviation is different, Using a Mask, Washing Hands, and Maintaining Distance, “said Dr. M. Atoillah Isfandiari.

Geliat Airlangga has held several activities in the form of webinars, community service and mentoring that focuses on maternal and child health. The result of the collaboration between Geliat Airlangga and UNICEF is to educate the community about COVID-19 and its impact on children, as well as the implementation of proper and correct health protocols during the pandemic.
