UNAIR NEWS – “If you have big goals, your body will also tire yourself out. If your life map is high, then your efforts and prayers to achieve it must be equal, ”said Muhammad Fuad Izzatulfikri on Thursday, Agustus 27.

Fuad is a student of Indonesian Language and Literature (Sasindo) Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) class of 2017. During his study, he was also in charge to be Vice President of Sasindo Student Association and also Head of Research and Development Division at BSO LDS.

It is known that he graduated from high school in 2016, but he was not lucky enough to become a student and decided to take a gap year. During that time, he chose to serve at his school in Pondok Tahfidh Yanbuul Qur’an as a coach for Arabic and English language.

“The reason why I choose this major is because of my interest in literature and language. My ambition is to introduce the locality of Indonesian literature and language to the world, “explained Fuad, who is currently Head of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) FIB.

As a language and literature student, Fuad continued, getting used to reading and writing is an absolute must. Apart from that, it is important to remember that people’s interest in literacy culture decreases due to the prevalence of false information circulating in society.

To overcome this, Fuad decided to sell books and invited his friends to discuss current issues in the society. For him, selling books can improve literacy culture and of course bring blessings for him.

During pandemic, Fuad has filled his daily life by reading, discussing and writing in national media. Moreover, he is currently joining the Student Exchange program at Jeonbuk National University.

“I left early in August 2020 and became the only student representative for UNAIR. By participating in the exchange, I can learn to survive in a country with a different culture, ”explained the man who was born on December 4, 1997.

The reason Fuad chose South Korea as a study destination was because he was interested in popular culture diplomacy and Korean language. In addition, he wants to learn more about literary literature in South Korea.

Previously, Fuad joined an international program of Asian Academic Society International Conference (AASIC) in Thailand. On that occasion, he brought research entitled Surabaya’s Traveling Funfair: Local Wisdom Resistance of Urban Citizen as a Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities.

“As a student, you should be eager to learn and get new experience. By participating in a prestigious event to get great exposure, so you can get new experience that other people don’t necessarily get, “he concluded. (*) Author: Muhammad Wildan Suyuti Editor: Feri Fenoria Rifa’i
